The Marble Arch

from The Long Way Round by Gronk

/

about

he sun’s up and you’re on the march
You drag your shadow to the Marble Arch
Your mouth is dry yeah your throat is parched
And the day is just beginning
You fall in the open door
Crawl up the stairs to the thirteenth floor
You wanted a battle so you got a war
And one which neither side is winning

And it makes me wonder why
We try to spend our lives inside it
Don’t it make you wonder why
We ever decide to go outside at all?

Now some Cheshire cat by the name of Blair
He left this town a millionaire
He had quite a bit of swag but silver in his hair
And at his temples thinning
Well the Goblin King threw in down at the Horny Toad
He won some money then he lost a load
Now you can see him at the launderette on Portobello Road
Just watching the drums spinning

And it makes me wonder why
We try to spend our lives inside it
Don’t it make you wonder why
We ever decide to go outside at all?

From Ladbroke Grove to Tower Hill
From the paving stones up to the windowsill
See the ghost of Ed Shepherd and he laughing still
Yeah that old face still grinning
Forget your wine and forgo your weed
If it’s power you seek then it’s friends you need
And if you cannot tell the difference between desire and greed
Then you’ll always have trouble with women.

about

Gronk London, UK

Gronk writes commercial pop-rock songs with an unhealthy dose of gallows humour, and instrumental chillout music for the cheesy cocktail bars in his mind. Gronk is happy to be lonely and his music is ideal if you are an astronaut in winter.
